What’s this post all about?

In this post we are going to tell you about popular (and what we believe to be worthwhile) cyber security conferences and events that take place in the Middle East each year. Of course, there are dozens of events taking place in the MENA region and this post is very much a ‘work-in-progress’; i.e. meaning that we will be add events to this page over the coming months and years – so don’t be fooled by the original published date of this post! Our understanding is that most cyber conferences in the MENA region take place in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Egypt.

Why did we select these Cyber Conferences?

This is not a list of ‘upcoming events’, rather, this is a list of regular (typically annual) InfoSec events that take place within the Middle East. We select these Conferences on two criteria: firstly, is the conference reputable?; does it attract professional Cyber Professionals? And, secondly, does the conference take place on a regular basis? If the answer to these two questions is ‘yes’ then it is very likely that we will add the event to this page.

Can I add my Cyber Security Conference or event that is taking place in the MENA region to this page?

Of course! Please do! All you need to do is submit a form by visiting our main conference directory listing page here. We will happily add your event to all our resources including our weekly email that goes out to thousands of cyber security professionals.

Middle East Cyber Security
Where: Muscat, Oman

Oman has evolved into a cyber security leader within the Middle East region, especially with regards to SCADA and ICS, and they rank high on the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI). This event, in Muscat, the capital of Oman, is one of the region’s premier cyber security conventions. The conference gives a voice for Middle Eastern nations and cyber experts to advance in networking and information security practices. This conference, titled: “Middle East Cyber Security”, has five learning tracks: Government Organizations, Financial Institutions, Energy Oil and Gas, Businesses and Industries and Transport and Logistics so whatever your profession, there’s something for everyone here.

Cyber Defense Summit
Where: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

This annual event has a Saudi Arabian focus. Organized and strategically supported by several local cyber security entities, this event is a premier Middle East cyber conference because they invite up to 120 ICT/ SCADA security decision makers from Saudi government agencies, defense and security authorities, banking and financial institutions as well as oil and gas companies from the Middle East region (not just Saudi Arabia). Like the “Middle East Cyber Security” conference in Oman, this event is all about sharing awareness with regards to enhancing the ability to secure critical networking infrastructures in Saudi Arabia and the surrounding region.

Cyber Security for Energy & Utilities
Where: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Hardly surprising owing to the dominant industry in the region, (i.e. Oil & Gas) this cyber conference, like the “Cyber Defense Summit”, and “Middle East Cyber Security” in Oman, also addresses SCADA/ ICS. The organizers of this conference are keen to emphasis the need for such an event: which is a result of the increase of DDoS attacks on networks and servers in the region. The increase in APT’s has forced local industries to act, and the net result is the popularity of this cyber conference in the Middle East. This event makes an effort to arrange a friendly environment for sharing important and forward thinking ideas regarding the cyber landscape – especially about how to stop large scale DDoS attacks.

Middle East Info Security Summit
Where: Cairo, Egypt

The “Middle East Info Security Summit” is one of the largest cyber conferences in the Middle East.

The themes covered are both extensive and in-depth: It Systems & Network Security, Intrusion Detection And Prevention, Cloud Computing Security, Crime and Forensics, Mobility Security, Security Of Ecommerce, Commerce and Government, Infrastructure Security, Social Media Threats, Network Intrusion, Detection And Prevention, Information Security Policies & Strategies, Identity Management, Biometrics, Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERT) & Incident Management, New Cybercrime Threats, IT Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery Plans Security Education – Awareness, Training And Certification. So, clearly, there’s something here for everyone.

This event is a regional power-event and if you work in cyber security then very likely you’ll find a theme listed above that you’d like to learn more. The intention of this conference is to facilitate the sharing of discoveries and solutions to common cyber threats to attempt to reduce cyber crime as much as possible.

Egypt Cyber Security Summit
Where: Cairo, Egypt

We see this conference as being similar to the “Middle East Info Security Summit” which also takes place in Cairo, Egypt. Themes covered include: Data Loss Prevention, DDOS Attacks, Anti-Malware Strategies and Advanced Persistent Threats. Taking place each year this event gathers together the region’s leaders in Information Security and IT strategy to devise solutions to the rising challenges of information security in Egypt but also the surrounding region.

In Summary

The Middle East is, as we are all too aware, a hub of Geo-political activity with events in Syria, Iran and Iraq etc all making headlines every day. Cyber threats are associated and often work in tandem with the Geo-political situation so in reality cyber is a massive issue in the Middle East region. We didn’t find too many cyber conferences taking place in the Middle East, but if you feel otherwise then please let us know by dropping a comment below, we’ll gladly add it to this post. If you’ve attended any of these events we’d love to hear from you, please drop a comment below.
