SAE International, formerly known as the Society of Automotive Engineers, is a non-profit professional organization for engineers and engineering professionals working in mobility, automotive, and aerospace engineering. The group is committed to promoting mobility engineering to promote safe, clean, and long-term transportation alternatives. SAE International, founded in 1905, has grown to become the world’s biggest automotive and aerospace engineering association, with over 85,000 members in 140 countries.
SAE International sponsors hundreds of events each year, ranging from professional development seminars and on-track conferences to virtual events and global student competitions, to further its purpose of promoting knowledge, interchange, and research in automotive and aerospace engineering.
SAE International hosts several significant events and conferences each year, including the SAE International World Congress Experience and Mobility Connect. The SAE International World Congress Experience (WCX) is an annual technical conference that brings together individuals and organizations from all over the world to debate the most recent advancements and discoveries in automotive and aerospace engineering. This year’s WCX will be held at the Cobo Center in Detroit, USA, from April 19 to 23, 2021, and will be hosted by SAE and the International Automotive Technologists (IAT).
Mobility Connect is an annual SAE International conference that brings together academic, commercial, and government professionals in automotive and aerospace engineering to explore the newest mobility engineering trends. Mobility Connect 2021 will take place in Detroit, Michigan, on May 12-13, 2021. The program will include educational research presentations, panel discussions with industry experts, and interactive workshops to promote mobility engineering by connecting the global community of professionals. Previous Mobility Connect keynote speakers include Chris Thomas, President of VW Powertrain Development, Robert Davey, Senior Vice President of Engineering at Honda R&D Americas, and Kenya Hayes, Executive Director of Audi R&D America.
SAE International is also known for holding and organizing several student competitions for high school and university students to inspire the future generation of engineers and engineering professionals. SAE International’s A World in Motion (AWIM) Challenge, the SAE Aero Design East and West Challenges, and the SAE Formula Hybrid and eFormula Electric Vehicles competitions are examples of student competitions. The 2021 AWIM Challenge, for example, asks high school teams from around the world to design and build a balsa wood glider to demonstrate basic aeronautics and engineering principles.
Since 1905, SAE International has provided a platform for experts and students in the field of mobility engineering to grow and enhance their knowledge and expertise. The organization has heavily invested in the development of the next generation of automotive and aerospace engineers through a variety of events, contests, and conferences.
