Taiwan is amongst the leading countries in Cybersecurity and is particularly noted for its commitment to IT security in both the private and public sectors. According to the 2020 Global Cybersecurity Index, Taiwan ranks fifth out of a total of 193 countries on measures of commitment to IT security, personnel, technical measures, cooperation, and legal measures.

The government in Taiwan is active in promoting Cybersecurity as a priority by investing resources to meet the growing demands for Cybersecurity experts. Taiwan is home to numerous universities that offer Cybersecurity disciplines and hosts both international and national Cybersecurity-related conferences. Most recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology implemented the National Network Security and Defense Joint Office, a step towards achieving the National Strategy of Technological Automation and Network Security.

Taiwan also holds numerous cyber events and forums such as the Taiwan International Cybersecurity Forum (TICF) run by the government, and the annual Cybersecurity EXPO which is organized and hosted by the Taipei Computer Association. These events bring together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to share best practices and discuss Cybersecurity trends.

Despite these efforts, Taiwan still faces many challenges when it comes to Cybersecurity. For example, awareness and capacity remain key issues in the country alongside a lack of national cyber laws. Moreover, in 2019, Taiwan was among the 10 countries that suffered the largest losses due to cyber-attacks and internet threats according to the Computer Emergency Response Team of Taiwan (CERT-TW).

As a result, Taiwan is placing a great emphasis on IT Security and is actively working to develop the necessary legal frameworks and resources to protect the country and its citizens from cyber threats. For example, at the recently concluded 2020 Cyber Security Summit, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs addressed new policies in their efforts to combat cyber threats in the private sector. Going forward, it is expected that Cybersecurity-related regulatory and technological frameworks in Taiwan will continue to develop.

9th March 2026 | Real World Crypto (RWC) Symposium 2026

RWC 2026, the Real World Crypto Symposium, will take place in Taipei, Taiwan from March 9 to 11, bringing together researchers, engineers and practitioners who work on deploying cryptography in real systems. Organized by the International Association for Cryptologic Research, the event focuses on practical cryptographic engineering and the challenges involved in implementing secure algorithms at scale. Attendees will explore applied cryptography topics such as protocol design, secure implementations, algorithmic improvements and the complexities of real world threat models that shape modern systems.

The symposium also features several affiliated events, including RWPQC 2026, Real-World MPC Asia 2026 and OSCW 2026, along with the co-located FHE.org 2026 meeting. These events provide additional opportunities to engage with specialists in post-quantum cryptography, multi-party computation and fully homomorphic encryption. With contributed talks, peer discussions and sessions led by leading experts, RWC 2026 offers a valuable setting for anyone involved in cryptographic development or security engineering.
