Conference Description
Cyber First Kenya 2026 is positioned to become the premier cybersecurity summit in East Africa. The event will bring together C-level executives, technology leaders, and policymakers in Nairobi on 8 July 2026. As the first edition of this regional series, the summit seeks to address the rapidly changing cybersecurity landscape in Kenya and the wider East African region. With the digital ecosystem expanding at an unprecedented rate, the need for robust cybersecurity measures has never been more critical.
Kenya’s Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity Risks
Kenya has emerged as a digital powerhouse in Africa, leading innovation and technological progress. This rapid digital growth, however, has exposed the nation to a surge in cyber threats. In the last quarter of 2025, over 4.5 billion cyber threats were detected, marking a 441% increase compared to the previous year. The financial repercussions have been substantial, with KES 29.9 billion lost to cybercrime during this period.
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks have risen sharply, with a 112% year-on-year increase, making Kenya the third most targeted country in Africa. Despite a strong commitment to cybersecurity, a significant 96% talent gap persists, hindering the effective implementation of security strategies. This gap leaves organizations vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, highlighting the urgent need for skilled professionals in the sector.
Summit Objectives: Tackling Key Cybersecurity Issues
The summit will address these urgent challenges through six practitioner-led tracks. These tracks are designed to provide practical solutions and foster collaboration among stakeholders. The focus areas include:
- Protection of national critical infrastructure
- Regulatory governance and data privacy under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act
- Zero Trust and cloud security strategies
- AI-driven threat intelligence
- Talent development and capacity building
- Cross-border geopolitical intelligence sharing
Each track will offer actionable insights and strategies to enhance Kenya’s cybersecurity resilience and promote regional cooperation. The summit aims to equip participants with the knowledge needed to address current and emerging threats effectively.
Programme Features and Industry Recognition
The comprehensive programme will include keynote speeches, panel discussions, fireside chats, and an enterprise case study. A key highlight will be the inaugural Cyber First Awards East Africa, which will honor excellence in six categories such as cybersecurity innovation, public sector achievement, and Zero Trust leadership. These awards are intended to recognize organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing cybersecurity in the region.
Cyber First Kenya 2026 is set to establish new benchmarks for cybersecurity dialogue and collaboration in East Africa. The summit will serve as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, professional networking, and the celebration of industry achievements, ultimately strengthening the region’s cybersecurity landscape.
