Cybersecurity Conferences and Events in Australia

In this resource, we list our “Recommended Australian Cybersecurity Conferences”.

This post will remain an “evergreen” post in the sense that events that we add are automatically generated throughout 2019.

All events and conferences that are listed on this page are in descending order (so the most recent) at the top.

How Do We Select These Events?

It’s actually very simple. We just take a look at the quality of speakers, the longevity of the event, the subject matter and a few other variables.

When an event is added by a conference organizer we make a decision as to whether it should be awarded a ‘recommended status’. If it is, then it is automatically included within this post. You can learn more about our process here and about our company here.

Australia and Cybersecurity

The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) oversees and manages everything to do with Cybersecurity in Australia.

In summary, the ACSC is responsible for IT Security which includes analysing, investigating and reporting cyber threats and coordinating national security capabilities and operations for incidents of cybercrime, cyberterrorism, and cyber warfare.

As part of the Five Eyes (FVEY), Australia clearly plays a vital part in the collection and sharing of Cybersecurity Threats.

Owing to the importance that Australia has within the global Cybersecurity Community it is hardly surprising that the nation hosts some truly awesome security events.

Events We’ve Discovered In Australia, 2018

* This resource is automatically updated each time a conference organizer submits a London/ UK based Cybersecurity Conference which is approved.

Recommended Event: Kangacrypt
When: December 7, 2018 - December 8, 2018
Why: When publishing a resource on the “Best Cybersecurity Conferences in Australia” we try and include as many niches as possible within IT Security and this one clearly covers the need for a decent cryptography event which takes place in Adelaide.

Recommended Event: Asiacrypt
When: December 2, 2018 - December 6, 2018
Why: Like Kangacrypt, this event also addresses cryptography, however this time it takes place in Brisbane. If you live and work in cryptography (especially in Queensland) then clearly this is an event that you ought to be attending.

Recommended Event: OzSecCon
When: June 2, 2018 - June 3, 2018
Why: We absolutely had to include OzSecCon because it certainly seems one of the more fun Cybersecurity events taking place in Australia in 2018. OzSecCon focuses more on physical “hacking devices” and technology than software/ OS hacking (for example).

Recommended Event: Cyber Threat Intelligence Summit
When: May 2, 2018 - May 4, 2018
Why: The organizers gave us free tickets to give away so of course we added this list to our “recommended list for 2018!”. On a serious note though, aside from the generosity of the conference organizers these folk put together some amazing speakers including professionals from INTERPOL, Telstra and even from within the Australian Government Cybersecurity Department.

Recommended Event: APAC Blockchain Conference
When: March 13, 2018 - March 15, 2018
Why: We cover every niche we can find within Cybersecurity, and with this being associated with Blockchain, we had to include it. We particularly like this conference because its been co-hosted by the Australian Digital Commerce Association (ADCA).

Recommended Event: Crikeycon
When: February 24, 2018
Why: In the spirit of making this resource all encompassing we’ve included CrikeyCon because as far as we can tell it’s the only InfoSec event in South East Queensland, Australia. Also, how could we not recommend an event with such an awesome name!

  1. How is OWASP AppSec day not in this list? Just finished this year, but I’m sure dates for next year will be out some time soon.

    1. Thanks for adding this comment, and sure, we’d be more than happy to add your recommendation to the OWASP AppSec event in Australia. We’re big fans of OWASP (and have been for many years now) so sure, more than happy to do that. If you don’t see OWASP on this list for 2019 and please remind us and we will be sure to include it.

  2. The COSAC Enterprise Security Architecture conference is also returning to Melbourne for 2019.
It was in Melbourne in 2017, and Sydney 2018.
